P90X Series
Tony HortonYear Released: 2004
Categories: Total Body Workouts
This is to comment generally on the series.
This series makes use of pullups, and I can't see getting all I can out of it without either purchasing some form of pullup bar (likely the Door Gym), or buying the bands and a door attachment to simulate the motion (one exerciser shows this).
The DVDs came packaged in a nice and cushioned black, zippered case. What a GREAT alternative to the standard individually wrapped jewel cases!! I REALLY liked this packaging concept.
It also came with a lot of other stuff which made the box huge. I haven't yet looked at it all.
It *seems* as if the same ab routine shows up at the end of a lot of the DVDS, but I'm not sure. The ab routine looks grueling!!
The strength routine makes me NOT want to rejoin the gym. I need to solve my pullup quandry, but once I do, I feel I will get a very effective *strength building* workout at home - even for my back.
I previewed the following: Chest & Back, Legs and Back, Shoulders and Arms, Yoga. I did the Kenpo one.
The Kenpo workout was a lot of fun, and I will review it in more detail in a separate review.
There is a countdown graphic, but I like it. The music is nice in all the dvds - I find it motivating when it needs be, and relaxing when it needs be.
The background exercisers look great, and are motivating for that reason.
Overall: Grade is: A. I really like this, and I intend to keep it.
Instructor Comments:
Tony is a chatty guy. He talks, he jokes, he makes a lot of comments, and the 'catch phrase' in this series is 'Bring it' ... and that gets said a lot.
He's not to everyone's taste - does the "cool guy" thing - but it's not obnoxious, mostly it just made me smile and shake my head a few times.
But Tony seems genuinely nice, and interested in helping people get fit.
