Jazzercise Dancin' Abs

Shanna Missett Nelson, Young McCarthy
Year Released: 2009

Categories: Abs/Core , Floor Aerobics/Hi-Lo/Dance

This was my first Jazzercise workout. It consists of dancey combinations interspersed with standing abs work. The combos are made up of about 4 moves of mixed impact and these moves are repeated at varying tempo. There is a fair bit of repetition which gives you a chance to really get the moves down. The combos are paired with songs, and when a song ends, everyone freezes with a dramatic flourish. I've never seen that in a workout dvd before. A new song introduces a new combo. There are 2 instructors that take turns leading. Both start out slow introducing the moves and then speed up. Some familiarity with Jazzercise would likely be helpful because moves are cued with names that meant nothing to me but seem to be part of the Jazzercise repertoire. As I mentioned the choreography is dancey with hip shaking and chest pumps etc. During the standing abs you really have to "put your mind in the muscle" or you won't get much out of the movements here. The music is pretty hip-hoppy with vocals, which differs from a lot of my workouts. I definitely prefer DH not in the room when I do this one due to the chest pumps and such. There are options for a 30 min and 60 min workout. It is fun and I recommend.

Instructor Comments:
I like both instructors. Shanna seems somewhat more robotic than Young.
