Cardio Kicks

Whew, this workout is TOUGH! Tough on intesity, but easy to learn the moves. I kept my heartrate up and the intensity was definitely up there. I sweated a lot, and would have sweated even more if (1)I knew the workout choreography and (2) I had the space for some of the shuffling moves.

I like this a LOT better than tae bo. Cathe starts off with a nice drill that has some front and back kicks to warm you up a little. Then she kicks it up a notch with some atheletic style drills. There is a lot of punching, which I like! There are also some jumping jacks, scoops, shuffles, kicks, plyo jumps, all mixed in. If you are looking for a strictly kickboxing tape, sorry, this isn't it! This cardio/kickboxing workout is really more of a high/low workout with kickboxing-style moves thrown in. She gives some good form pointers thoughout, but does not focus on them so much.

The music is up there, very high tempo. And Cathe is very enthusiastic, grunting and whooping, but in a very non-annoying way. She just seems to be having so much fun! And you can't help but be inspired by her physique. There are some high impact moves, but you can modify for lower impact.

PROS: Great music, great drills, tape moves along quickly. Lots of punching if you like that. Great stretch at the end; even introduced one stretch for upper back that I never would have thought to use. Oh, and there are MEN in her video!

CONS: There are some shuffling segments that lead me to believe that Cathe thinks you're working out on a football field :) She even says at one point that if you don't have the space, give her height instead. You can easily substitute in more punching or kicking during this segment though. Another con, although it wasn't one for me, is that some people may confuse this for a kickboxing DVD. It is not. If you're looking for strictly kickboxing, you will be disappointed.

All in all, I highly recommend this tape. It's probably even better on DVD.
