Sport Step

I really like this tape! It's a combination of a short step aerobics routine, athletic drills and more drills using the step. I get a great workout every time and enjoy the variety.

You start with a fairly long warm up where she incorporates some of the steps that will be used in the step aerobic routine. She does some kickboxing moves and other fun stuff. There is an "arm thing" which I couldn't even come close to getting. You have to see it to know what I mean. There is no stretch in the beginning to transition into the next part. After the warmup, she moves into the athletic drills which consists of side to side shuffles as fast as you can, plyometric jumps, etc. The first time I did this tape, I stopped and went back to make sure I had the right tape. I didn't expect this in the workout. I was thinking maybe I had put the Sport Circuit tape in but I hadn't, so I kept going.

Next is the actual step aerobics routine with the kickboxing moves put together from the warmup, double time basics, etc. This was a fun part and pretty intense.

Finally, you move on to the drills using your step. I was really sweating at this point. Afterward, she does a short cool down and a stretch. There are push ups at the end which I think don't fit so I don't do them.

The music is pretty non-descript and sometimes hard to hear. The set is a wood deck with beautiful trees behind. At one point during the tape, a cat runs across the set and she makes a funny comment about the "wild animals" in the area. It's pretty humorous. Needless to say, this is not a super high quality production but it is a really good workout.

Mindy has such a great personality. She just seems like such a nice, down to earth person which comes through in this and her other tapes. I think she's one of those instructors who deserves to be in better quality videos.

I own several of Mindy's tapes and she is very consistent in all of them. I have to say, however, that this is my favorite (although I just received her new CIA video and which I will review as soon as I do it!) She starts out with a deceptively easy warmup and works you into a cardio frenzy! The warmup is basic, but she teaches moves that are utilized later on. After going through some sports conditioning moves on and off the step, she launches into 3 intense combinations which are are mix of kickboxing and power moves. These are then put together for a non-stop cardio ride. They are fun and exhilarating and I was exhausted when I finished the tape. After those combinations, Mindy does some intense interval training. As an aerobic instructor, I found this video to have some very different moves and helpful choreography for my sports conditioning classes. I rate Mindy and the video a solid A+!

Instructor comments: Mindy is an exceptional instructor. She enunciates her words so you can understand everything and her explanations are clear and concise. She chatters, but not excessively and she is refreshingly upbeat and fun. This was a very cardio intensive video and she did not even seem out of breath! Kudos for her conditioning level.
