Split Step

Tim Culwell, Rich Seibert

I love this workout! This is just slightly over an hour long including the warmup and cooldown, and about 40 minutes is stepping. Tim and Rich each take turns teaching a segment, and then they are woven together. It's so much fun, and it's something of a mind exercise, too, when you "split" the routines and weave them into one.

The music is excellent (the kind you hear on CIA tapes), and the instructors do a good job of keeping the intensity up even during the learning stages. Rich's segments usually involve a lot of power, and Tim's are more low-key.

Both the choreography and intensity are intermediate/advanced. In Tim's past videos, he usually stuck to more moderate or basic choreography, but not in this workout. None of the choreography is super-advanced, but there are a lot of quick directional changes that might leave you a little frustrated if you're not used to that kind of thing.

The quality of the video leaves a little to be desired, especially since it goes for $24.95 from IDEA. The picture and lighting could be improved a lot. I'm not a video producer, so I don't know the technical terms, but it just doesn't seem to be in focus as well as it could be. Also, my copy has a generic IDEA cover, and I think they should be able to give you a "real" cover for $24.95.

But none of that lessens my enjoyment of this fabulous workout. If the quality were better, I'd give it an A+. But since it's not, I guess it will have to be an A-.

Instructor comments: Both Tim and Rich are dynamic, very likeable instructors with cueing that is right-on. Their choreography is extremely well put- together, too.
