The Hacker's Diet

John Walker

(web book, not in print)

This is a FREE web book. http://fourmilab.com/hackdiet/ A word about the title. The author is a computer engineer and so it is a little dry at times, but most of it is quite entertaining. True geeks will love the spreadsheets.

Yes, this book does deal with dieting, but it also has a daily 15-minute exercise program based on the Royal Canadian Air Force exercises. It was written so that those who wish can keep track of their diet and exercise on the computer, and if you are not on Windows, or don't like spreadsheets, he has the pencil and paper computations for you. He does not want you to starve yourself, but simply create The computer spreadsheets are there to make it easier for you to plan your meals to keep under your calorie goals, and also to keep track of where you are on the "exercise ladder", which starts with very low levels of exercise and works up from there.

It is a little long to read, and I would advise printing or downloading only what you need. According to his website, it could run 250 pages--no thanks!

If you like logbooks or graphs, and like to have other ways to gauge your progress (besides your mirror and the fit of your clothes), this is for you. And the price is right!
